Passport at Montessori Learning Center is your ticket to a rich and full summer camp experience!  It's summer fun, excitement, and learning all rolled into one great package.  Passport offers campers a vibrant and caring community that encourages cooperation, independence, and self-discovery.

Passport is open to campers ages 30 months through 10 years old

Summer 2009 Dates and Times:
Camp operates for 2 full sessions beginning Monday July 6th and ending on Friday August 28th.  You can sign up for one week at a time or per session, keeping things flexible to meet your summer time schedule.

Camp begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 2:00 PM

 Staff:
Montessori Learning Center is built on the quality of our faculty and staff.  Passport offers the same values and commitment to our campers.  The camp staff consists of certified Montessori educators and young adults in the pursuit of higher education.  Together they create a structured, safe, and supportive enviornment. 

Our Passport staff consist of:
50%  Montessori Learning Center teachers
25%  Undergraduate students
25%  High school students (from La Jolla Country Day)

Camp To Do List:
1.  Complete the Registration and Tuition form
2.  Fill out the Authorization and Release form
3.  Complete the Health History form
4.  Provide Montessori Learning Center with a copy of updated immunization
5.  Pay the Final Payment

Tuition Rates:
$150 per week
$550 session A (savings of $50) July 6 - July 31
$550 session B (savings of $50) August 3 - August 28

Registration Details:
Passport offers rolling enrollment as space permits.  All applications are processed as they are recieved and should be returned to the camp office as soon as possible.  Your application cannot be processed without all of the required information.  Once your registration has been processed, a welcoming packet and postcard will be mailed to you.
 
Discounts:
Discounts will be applied after your registration has been processed. Only one discount may be applied to a camper's registration:
- 5% discount given to campers registered for all 8 weeks of camp (2 full sessions)
OR
- 5% discount given to families with more than 1 child enrolled in camp

 

ALL CAMPERS ROTATE THROUGH THE FOLLOWING PASSPORT ACTIVITIES:

Nature:
What does the call of a Blue Jay sound like?  Where do bats like to live?  Can you really hear the ocean in a sea shell?  Through unique combinations of outdoor exploration and art, campers discover the wonders of the world and the role we play in our environment.
Activities may include:

  • Nature based art
  • Seashore exploration
  • Environmental awareness
  • Local ecosystem discovery
  • Introduction to ornithology
  • Species identification
  • Habitat design and creation

Science:
Using and engaging hands-on curriculum, our Science program encourages curiosity, experimentation, critical observation, and problem solving.  Passport scientists will conduct a full range of scientific projects and experiments as they discover how things work.
Activities may include:

  • Fossil Making
  • Weather research
  • Simple robotics
  • Chemistry experiments
  • Solar system study
  • Human body research

Visual Arts:
Campers develop their creative talents using a variety of techniques and media.  New frontiers of design, choice and styles emerge as campers use their artistic skills through fun and expressive projects.
Activities may include:

  • Printmaking
  • Sculpture
  • Painting
  • Bookmaking
  • Ceramics
  • Cultural art
  • Traditional crafts

Theater Arts:
Is your child a ham?  Does he or she love dressing up and performing?  If so, Theater Arts at Passport is just the ticket!  Campers kindle their natural creative spirits by exploring every aspect of theater performance, from set and costume design to improvisation and voice projection.  And don't miss the end-of-summer performance!
Activities may include:

  • Set and costume design
  • Skill workshops
  • Storytelling
  • Creative games
  • Directing

Team Adventure and Games:
Team adventure offers an enthusiastic and supportive environment for kids of all levels.  Campers focus on developing skills and teamwork while challenging themselves in new and exciting ways.  The overall focus of this program is always on team building and collaboration.
Activities may include:

  • Team building activities
  • Skill building
  • Challenge courses
  • Fun games
  • Obstacle courses

Music:
Music plays an integral part of developing the mind and heart of children.  Through singing, rhythmic games, instruments, movement, improvisation and musical composition, children's musical awareness is developed.  The class also includes projects where campers make their own musical instruments, which are then incorporated into class activities.
Activities may include:

  • Creating songs
  • Playing rhythmic games
  • Making and playing instruments
  • Singing
  • Music Education

Movement and Dance:
Through a variety of age appropriate activities from basic movement to expressive movement, improvisation, technical dance instruction, and choreography, campers develop a body awareness that strengthens their confidence, physical coordination, and skills.

  • Choreography
  • Improvisation
  • Expressive movement
  • Technical dance instruction

Sports:
Our Sports program inspires athletes of all levels to further develop and improve their overall abilities.  From basic technique to introducing more advanced skills to promoting a higher level of tactical understanding, campers are sure to be challenged.  The emphasis is always on sportsmanship and working as a team.
Activities may include:

  • Basketball
  • Volleyball
  • Track and field
  • Baseball/kickball
  • Soccer
  • Tennis
  • Lacrosse

Swimming:
Certified lifeguards and water safety instructors teach campers to swim while emphasizing safety.  Swimming also offers games, free swim, and of course lots of fun for all.

Fieldtrips & Visitors:
Campers take weekly field trips to various exciting locations.  Day trips offer campers memorable experiences with their friends and counselors, while also teaching interesting and exciting information about local destinations.  Campers who are young to travel enjoy programs by special visitors.

  • Children’s Museum
  • La Jolla Birch Aquarium
  • Coronado Beach and Ferry Excursion
  • Museum of Natural History
  • San Diego Zoo
  • Nature Science Center
  • Legoland in Carlsbad, California

Family Fridays:
Family Fridays are community eventy held at the end of each session.  Parents/guardians can meet other Passport families, learn about what their campers have been doing at camp, and chat with faculty and staff.
Family Fridays may include:

  • Talent Show
  • Theater performance
  • Scavenger hunt
  • Activities fair
  • Dance performance
  • Photo slideshow
  • Popsicle party

Theme Days:
Each week campers participate in the camp spirit by dressing up.
Activities may include:

  • The wild wild west
  • Super heroes
  • Story book characters
  • Pirates
  • Career day
  • Halloween in the summer
